Hummingbird skull carved out of invasive European holly (Ilex aquifolium). It was supposed to be the rufous hummingbird (Selasphorus rufus), but at 34mm, it is not exact enough to be any particular hummingbird species. This carving was pushing the limits of the detail possible in holly.
I really should get other stuff done, but I keep being drawn back to bird skull carvings. Holly is such a nice wood to work with, and it feeds my desire to acquire bird skulls which can not be sated under the current legal system.
